given the success of our previous call for the opinions of our loyal readers (see animist electronics: reprise), i'd like to put forth a new question for discussion, banter, and hopefully insult and mockery.
there's always lots of talk about what makes good hangover food, but for all the lying around on the couch you'll do after you've avoided vomiting (or gotten it over with), what movie should you watch? this issue came to mind after i heard about an obviously bad choice for this kind of predicament. i started making a list in my head of better alternatives, and came to the conclusion that almost anything would be a better idea than "happiness" (except for maybe "the hours" or "fear and loathing in las vegas").
i head off my list with:
office space
the big lebowski
better off dead
real genius
i'd like to invite the members of the academy to make their nominations in the category best (and worst) hangover film.

Your list is pretty damn good as is. I'd add a couple of tv series, namely the Office (BBC version) or Freaks and Geeks.
I've heard that Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, and Veronica Mars are really quite good.
Also, I've heard good things about Willie Dynamite as well.
for those of us who are still a little alarmed at our decrease in social life lately because OTHER people are spending their time on buffy and angel :) -- could i nominate a separate list of best drunk viewing? because i bet if i watched buffy and angel drunk i would like it better. much like i feel about caribbean mtv -- loved all of it indiscriminately. or is that not the kind of movie love we're looking for? are buffy and angel really hangover fixes?
i have to agree with my blogmate on this one. first of all, though i do love buffy and angel, i don't know that i specifically put them in the hangover remedy category. and i'm actually concerned that not even rip roaring drunkeness would make my good blogmate like any of the joss whedon endeavors.
that said, where is everybody, and why is no one adding to my list?!?
What about 1) the original Matrix or 2) Grosse Point Blank?
Or, now that I think of it, Event Horizon?
event horizon? possessed evil spaceship that mutilates its passengers? i think that might actually go on the worst list (along with the recent additions of pulp fiction, fatal attraction, and drop dead gorgeous).
i do like grosse point blank and the matrix though.
and also (thank you twinset and co.) dazed and confused, animal house, high fidelity.
i've had good luck with dodgeball. also, you can't go wrong with movies about dancing or muppets, unless of course you don't like movies about those things.
the big lebowski is a poor choice, in my opinion. I think I would retch every time The Dude made himself a white russian (which happens 9 times). I agree with many others, the TV shows seem like a good choice, because you can waste the most time with them.
I'd also recommend all of the Wes Anderson movies, which are good for any occasion.
Obviously the key is (if you are watching a movie as opposed to a TV show) to either watch something you've seen before or something that is pure fluff. Imagine if you watch a really good movie for the first time while feeling nauseous? You'll then have some bad associations. Like if you saw a movie on a horrible date or something, but with dry heaving (which I suppose occassionally happens on dates as well, but thankfully none that I can remember.)
i think bottle rocket is hands down the best wes anderson movie for this sort of thing.
anything with lots of motion is out: speed, waterworld, and sadly maybe my favorite little ewoks (don't know, haven't tried that one). i think the matrix would be hard on me. not sure how crouching tiger hidden dragon would fare.
dancing and muppet movies are good for any occasion, really. i think the best hangover movie has very little motion in its plot, so strictly ballroom might make a good choice.
anything kind of monotone (blow, most parts of clerks)?
